California fire crews are on high alert

FRESNO, Calif.

Resources are thin and local agencies are having to call in emergency backup to make sure every station is fully staffed.

While Action News was at the emergency command center in Fresno -- 20 firefighters with the Fresno Blue Cards grabbed their gear to head to the foothills. The group is part of a Navy crew with special training to help the US Forest Service in a time of need.

The US Forest Service and Cal Fire tells us with so many firefighters battling fires in other areas of the state - agencies work together as part of a mutual aid system.

Resources are then spread throughout California and are strategically placed in case another fire breaks out.
