Volunteers are working on a T-37 at a hangar at Castle Airport. When their work is complete, the plane will go on display at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater.
The aircraft was the main training jet for U.S. Air Force pilots from the 1950's until it was discontinued about five years ago. The restoration process is funded through donations and fundraisers.
"If it weren't for foundations like this, these aircraft wouldn't be historical artifacts, they'd be soda cans, which is unfortunate," said Joe Pruzzo, Castle Air Museum CEO.
The T-37 is expected to be on display by fall. Volunteers are also making progress on a massive A-3 Sky Warrior and a rare A-5 Vigilante that will soon be displayed at the Castle Air Museum.
