Earlier this week temperatures fell to a season low 27 degrees in the coldest areas. However, California Citrus Mutual says no damage to either the navel or mandarin crops were reported.
Growers ran wind machines on some citrus fruits which can raise the temperature in the groves by a few degrees. Citrus Mutual says running those wind machines can cost a grower about $30 an hour. Valley growers spent roughly $100 million dollars on frost protection during the 2011-2012 season.
