Although Boise State never spent a day in the Big East, the Broncos will still have to pay a $5 million exit fee. But Boise State officials said there are contract provisions that could lower that amount, and the Mountain West will help pay that fee. The Mountain West will have 11 football members in 2013, with San Jose State and Utah State joining July 1st, and Boise State's decision also will impact the Mountain West's upcoming television deal, the value of which could increase to at least $25 million a season.
But Fresno State fans want to know how this affects the Bulldogs? Financially, Boise State staying means the value of the conference's television rights deal will increase, with Mountain West football programs having the opportunity to earn up to $500,000 a game for appearing on national television on Saturdays.
As for scheduling the Broncos in every sport next season, Bulldog Athletic Director Thomas Boeh told me earlier today that he and the other Mountain West athletic directors will revisit next year's football schedule in the very near future.
