Firefighters battle Central Fresno blaze

FRESNO, Calif.

This picture shows the smoke billowing from the second story. Fire crews say the intense heat forced them to take a different approach in fighting the blaze.

The fire began just after 8:30 off of Belmont and Effie.

Investigators say a witness told them a homeless man may have been sleeping inside the abandoned home when the fire started.

"They had to back out and wait for the truck company to provide appropriate ventilation. The roof failed about 13 minutes into this fire," Coby Johns of the Fresno Fire Department said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Crews say the entire home was destroyed by the fire, that burned for about 40 minutes.
