Made in the Valley: Valley Lahvosh Baking Company

FRESNO, Calif.

This year marks Valley Lahvosh Baking Company's 90th year doing business in the same location.

Valley Lahvosh was founded in 1922 by Gazair Saghatelian, a master baker from Armenia. The company was run for many years by Gazair's daughter, Janet Saghatelian and now has been passed down to the third generation of Saghetlian's -- Gazair's granddaughter, Agnes Saghatelian.

Valley Lahvosh still provides the traditional, made fresh daily peda bread from their storefront, an honor to the origins of the company as the neighborhood bakery.

Nearly all Valley Lahvosh's business comes from national purchases and they are now exploring export opportunities.

Valley Lahvosh has 30 employees and can process 600 pounds of dough at a time and bakes the crackerbread in an 80-foot oven.
