Loved ones have been visiting the crash site all day, and dropping off flowers and memorial items. We're told the victim was an avid skateboarder, a soccer coach and will be missed.
Family friend Lezbeth Quijano said, "I was at work and i received a call and I like started screaming like no, no!"
Quijano says it was like a nightmare the moment she learned a close family friend and her young son's beloved soccer coach 15-year-old Brian Alvarado had been hit and killed in front of his house, as he was waiting for the school bus.
"He's a very good kid," she said.
Harris County Sheriff deputies say it was dark. Alvarado was wearing dark colored clothes and had his skateboard in his hand while he was standing in the road around 6:30am. That's when investigators say a female driver with two of her own children in the car, swerved to avoid the teen but instead, hit him before crashing into a ditch.
Jonathan, a schoolmate, was nearby and hear the impact. Authorities say the crash was so loud the victim's mother ran outside and saw her son on the ground. Word of the accident quickly spread to Alvarado classmates at Aldine High sShool, some of them overwhelmed with grief.
Edgar Lemon said tearfully, "He's my best friend."
Quijano says the teen soccer coach was known for doing odd jobs to help his mother with his younger siblings.
"He came and said mom here this is for my sister," Quijano said.
Now Quijano is struggling with how to break the news to her young son and his little teammates.
"They love him. They would see him and they say Brian, Brian," she said. "I'm going to miss him. I'm going to miss him."
Aldine ISD has made grief counselors available for students.
Deputies say the teen was standing in the roadway, and there are no sidewalks in the area. The driver is not expected to face any chages.
