Keeping Valley children cool in triple digit temps

FRESNO, Calif.

At Madison Elementary School in the Central Unified School District -- crews worked overnight to repair several broken air conditioning units after temperatures reached nearly 110 degrees there Monday.

At Jefferson Elementary in the Fresno Unified School District -- staff kept a close eye on the weather and encouraging students to drink plenty of water during recess and lunch.

Jefferson Elementary Principal Kali Isom-Moore said, "When it's really uncomfortable like yesterday we'll keep them in at lunchtime, in the cafeteria we'll have them stay in and do a little movie or show little show and then of course at recess we'll have teachers stay inside and play games with them."

Schools will also cancel sporting events when it reaches above 104 degrees.
