This year's Tulare County Fair kicked off with a music-filled parade in Downtown Tulare. Thousands came out to watch the floats...and then head onto the fairgrounds for more fun.
"At this year's fair it's going to be more geared towards the community and family," said Angie Avila, Tulare County Fair Interim CEO.
Born just in time for the Tulare County Fair is a little calf, who came into this world early Wednesday morning. Live stock shows caught a crowd just as the gates opened.
Julie Wise from Mission Oak High School spent all year getting her 250-pound pig ready, and today's event is where all her hard work pays off. "It's a cross breed. I named him sizzle because bacon sizzles a lot."
More than 97-thousand people are expected at this year's fair, but organizers are hoping they hit the 100-thousand mark. This year, the carnival section features $1-million dollars worth of brand new rides. One of them is the star dancer extreme. "It was fun, your stomach gets this feeling you get on all rides that is like high," said Samantha Romero, Tulare.
But perhaps most people come to the fairgrounds for the food. "The corn dogs-I'm serious !I love the corn dogs!" said Helene Gonzales, Tulare.
From bacon-wrapped corn dogs, to french fries covered in ketchup, just about anything fried can taste good. We checked out the deep-fried Twinkie dipped in batter and fried to perfection.
The Tulare County Fair is going on through Sunday.
