Fresno Police investigate death of 3-year-old boy

FRESNO, Calif.

Police said a 911 call came in around 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the area of Palm and Garland. They said the father of the boy was driving a silver car, and the boy was wrapped in a blanket in the back seat after spending the night inside the vehicle. Detectives said the father was heading to see a friend on Thursday morning, when he noticed the child was having difficulty breathing and called 911 for help.

When officer's arrived they performed CPR on the boy before he was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in serious condition. The boy was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Police are now looking whether the boy's death was the result of the cold, if the boy had other medical issues, or if it was the result of a homicide.

"Detectives from our child abuse unit and our homicide unit are out here investigating this. We're looking into factors of the child's medical history -- the circumstances, what led up to the child's death earlier this morning," said Sgt. Dave Ramos, Fresno Police Department.

Police said they are treating the case as a suspicious death. The father was taken in for questioning late Thursday morning. Police said they are now looking for the mother of the boy and their other child.
