A man is dead following a mid-morning shooting in Visalia.

The crime happened on Linwood Street near Tulare Avenue in southwest Visalia.

Investigators say several people called 9-1-1, about hearing gun shots -- and seeing a man lying in the street.

Officers and emergency crews tried to treat the victim, but he was already deceased.

Visalia police have now identified the victim as 25-year-old Larry Knight.

The shooting happened in a busy area, near a senior living facility and a half-block away from an elementary school.

Sgt. Ozzie Dominguez with the Visalia Police Department said, "We had officers in the area they arrived within seconds and our officers did locate one male victim. They tried to render medical aid. We did have subsequently first responders also arrive and he's now been declared deceased."

Late Thursday afternoon, Visalia police detained three people for questioning after they were found driving a pick-up truck matching the description of one that could be involved in the shooting.

The three men were not arrested. This is Visalia's fourth homicide this year.
