The Orange Cove Police Department first got the call about someone being shot from a passing vehicle around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Officers found a man sitting in the back seat of a car with a gunshot wound.
The victim started to go in and out of consciousness and was flown to Community Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery on Sunday evening.
Orange Cove officers have now turned the investigation over to the sheriff's office.
