Valley gears up for Super Sunday
Many families were preparing for Super Bowl parties even if their teams didn't make the big game.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Many families were preparing for Super Bowl parties even if their teams didn't make the big game.

Sports fans have been busy buying up their gear as they get ready for Sunday. JR's Sports Collectibles in Northwest Fresno has been popular with both the Seattle Seahawk and New England Patriot faithful. Store manager Noe Lopez said, "Valley fans right now about 55 percent to 45 percent Seahawk fans to Patriot fans. Looks pretty even."

Fans with no real interest in the game always look forward to the funny ads. The commercials are tailor-made for gatherings with friends and family. Lopez said, "I usually ask them and 90 percent of the people are going to a Super Bowl party or hosting a Super Bowl party. Very rarely do you see people watching the game at this point by themselves."

The big game will dwarf gamblers at Tachi Palace Casino in Lemoore. A giant 800-square-foot screen -- 44 feet across -- has been unveiled just in time for Sunday. Tachi Palace marketing director Kyle Gawthorp said, "We saw an opportunity to capitalize on the space with something that nobody else in North America has. We saw that opportunity and it was a great fit. Literally a great fit."

Folks will need to move to the back of the casino to be able to watch this Las Vegas-style big screen. Gawthorp said, "The curvature of it all. I mean people just stand in amazement. The interesting part is that we have to tone down the brightness because it's so bright." And impossible to miss.
