County firefighters had to cut the driver's side door off of the man's white Toyota Corolla to get him out of the car after the accident. They say he crossed a double yellow line to pass someone and smashed into another white car.
Both cars are essentially totaled.
Two people in the other car were hurt and got carried away on stretchers, but the driver who hit them suffered the worst injuries.
Highway 41 was busy with traffic Sunday, including people trying to get to Yosemite. Their path was blocked by the accident for more than an hour.
