Cambridge High School Principal Sam Hines found the weapon in the boy's backpack. Hines said, "Any time a weapon is on campus- one minute is too long." Fresno Police reported the hand gun was stolen, and the suspect did not threaten anyone on campus. Hines calls the student who turned in the suspect a hero. Hines said, "We're proud of our students who have worked on character, a culture that says we're going to also stand up for what's right."
But at least one parent is fearing for her son's safety. Amy didn't want her last name used in public. Her son attends Cambridge. She said, "That's pretty scary, why don't they check before they enter the school."
School officials say at this point they don't have a policy of searching students when they come to school. Fresno Police are not releasing any information about who turned in the suspect. They want to protect that student's identity to encourage others to come forward when they see bad behavior on campus.
