Investigators responded to a home on the outskirts of Pixley late Tuesday morning. Deputies found 76-year-old Shirley Bowles with a wound to the chest. She was rushed to the hospital and later died. Investigators later arrested a 12-year-old relative. Word of Bowles death spread quickly in this tight-knit community. One man told action news the 12-year-old had a troubled past.
Joe Faubus said, "We just kind knew one day something bad might happen. We hoped nothing bad would happen but we kinda knew something bad might happen one day. If I had a son that had issues he was having, there's no way that him or anyone else in my house would be able to get a gun or ammunition to go in it."
Friends say Shirley Bowles was a retired teacher and also taught at an adult school in Tulare County. Investigators say the boy and Bowles had gotten into an argument before she was killed.
