More than five million people took part in the drill on Thursday, but after a quake hits, evacuees would pour into the Fresno area.
State homeland security operatives say local emergency managers did a great job, but no matter how good they are, everybody better be ready. Matthew Bettenhausen, California Department of Homeland Security, says "But government and our volunteers and the Red Cross -- we're going to be overwhelmed in a major disaster. That means you need to be prepared. You have an individual responsibility to yourself and to your families to get ready."
Clovis and Sacramento emergency responders practiced a similar scenario back in April, just in case they get called in to help in the disaster zone.
