Fresno Double-Shooting Investigation

Fresno, CA, USA Fresno PD officers say several witnesses have identified the gunman who killed Michael Santiago. He was already wanted by detectives for an attempted carjacking several days ago.

A bundle of flowers and candles mark the curb on Backer Avenue where 19 year old Michael Santiago and his father Aurelio were shot.

Tony Bennink of the Fresno Police Dept. said, "We have several witnesses, we know they were arguing we know that there was a woman involved in this argument."

Officers say the suspect, 22 year old Carl Oliver is a gang member with a violent history of armed robbery, battery, car theft and receiving stolen property. Investigators say the suspect ditched the murder weapon trying to get away.

"We worked with some witnesses and they kind of gave us a pretty good idea of what the path was and we just searched the escape route. That's when we located the weapon and other articles."

In this neighborhood, most who live here don't want to talk on camera for fear of retaliation. After the gunfire, many rushed outside to find the victims lying helpless in the street, while the suspects ran away.

50 year old Aurelio Santiago is in fair condition at Community Regional Medical Center. If you have seen Oliver or know where he may be hiding, police want to hear from you.
