Tulare County Begins Layoffs

Tulare, CA, USA Administrators at the Health and Human Services Agency handed out pink slips and posted notices Wednesday letting employees know they might be losing their job.

More than 200 people could be laid-off by next month when clinics in Lindsay and Tulare shut down.

They're trying to close a $4-million dollar budget deficit. Health and Human Services employees were especially upset at how they found out they'd be losing their job.

"I think at the minimum, if there had been some personal communication with us.... We deserve better than that," said Division Manager Terry Wilcoxson.

The county is in talks to turn the clinics over to a private company that would still make low-cost services available to residents.

There will be a public hearing at the January 13th board of supervisors meeting.
