4-year-old boy fatally shot in Echo Park

ECHO PARK, Calif. LAPD Rampart officers received a call of shots fired at Court St. and N. Bixel St. at 4:25 p.m.

The child was hit in the upper body and treated on scene. He was transported in critical condition to Children's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said LAPD Lieutenant John Romero at a 6 p.m. press conference. The child's age was originally reported as 5 years.

The LAPD Rampart Division is investigating the shooting as a murder
