Fighting for Immigration Reform

Fresno, CA Sunday's service was organized by Faith in Community ... a group of religious activists. They want the stories of Valley immigrants to be heard all the way in Washington DC.

More than a hundred people held a prayerful protest at Saint Anthony's Church in Northwest Fresno Sunday.

Singing songs, holding candles, and sharing stories ... they prayed for President Obama and the three Valley congressmen who will attend an immigration reform meeting on June 17th.

Edgar Vriseno ... a member of "Faith in Community" plans to meet with Congressmen Nunes, Costa and Radonovich sometime in the next month. He wants to discuss the concerns of Valley immigrants ... hoping they'll bring that back to Washington DC.

Luis and Ceci Lopez of Fresno won't be at that meeting, but they are part of the fight.

People here say with a new white house administration, they have a renewed sense of hope. But reform won't come easy. At the core of the debate is border security and what price Americans pay because of immigration. A challenge ... these people are willing to take.

Calls to our congressmen were not returned. Organizers of Sunday's event say there are similar ones being planned at churches throughout Fresno.
