NASA photos show moon strike created plume

LOS ANGELES (AP) - October 17, 2009 They say the mission went off great even though many observers had expressed disappointment that the Oct. 9 impact was less than spectacular.

New images released over the weekend show a mile-high plume of lunar debris from the Cabeus crater shortly after the space agency's Centaur rocket struck.

Anthony Colaprete, the mission's chief scientist, says they were amazed by the data which appears to be very high quality.
