The poodle-mix was discovered by a cabinet maker who was tossing trash in the dumpster outside his business on Wednesday.
A Merced Police Officer picked up the pup and brought him to the county animal shelter. Several people who heard about the dog wanted to adopt him, and now shelter staff members say he's heading to a good home.
The shelter still has about 150 dogs and dozens of cats that are also in need of good homes for the holidays.
