A republican candidate for governor is giving his own campaign a big boost. State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner will donate 15 million dollars of his personal fortune to help fund his campaign.

A spokesperson for Poizner confirmed the story last night. Poizner made his fortune working in Silicon Valley.

He's battling two other republicans in next year's primary for governor - including former e-bay CEO Meg Whitman and former congressman Tom Campbell.
