Stolen car crashes after police chase

FRESNO, Calif. The crash happened at Herndon and Cedar when police say this red sports car failed to yield to a truck trying to make a left turn.

No one in either vehicle was injured.

Police say they had been on the lookout for the car after someone in the area called to report it was blocking their driveway.

When police caught up with the vehicle, they found out it was stolen, and tried to pull over its driver but they say he refused to stop.

They say the crash happened just after officers gave up their pursuit.

In the area of Herndon and Chestnut, the vehicle failed to yield at a stop sign and made a right turn on a red light. At that time, our pursuit was called off, they turned off their lights and fell back, but they were able to see when they came across Herndon and Chestnut, it appeared there had been an accident," Lt. John Capalao said.

The car's driver, Daniel Zajac, was arrested at the scene as well as his passenger, Dustin Rheinhardt.

Both are 19 years old, and now face charges of vehicle theft.
