Fresno police were called out to the Best Western Motel in Central Fresno Sunday after a 61-year-old man was found submerged at the bottom of this swimming pool.
"We're not sure what happened. We don't know why he fell unconscious swimming," said hotel manager Aldo Castaneda.
Aldo Castaneda is the manager of the motel. He says a maintenance worker discovered the man's body and called 911.
Before paramedics arrived, motel guests tried to get the man out using a pool skimmer. When that didn't work, Castaneda jumped in to help. "I jump in, grab him, pull him out, brought him to the shallow end of the pool, by the time we pulled him out, firefighters were here, they started administering CPR to him."
Fresno police say Sunday's drowning was accidental. It comes just one day after 21-year-old Arturo Luna of Southern California drowned while hanging out with friends at bass lake.
"Far as I know, they were just out swimming, and the victim went down," said Sgt. Jim Bernardi with the Madera County Sheriff's Department.
Friday's drowning at Bass Lake was the first one this summer. The Madera County Sheriff's Office says as the weather continues to heat up, drowning cases will likely increase.
So whether you're in a pool or a lake, their advice is to always use common sense. "There's really no way to protect people from themselves in that situation. I think the most important message to get out there is just to use caution," said Bernardi.
The name of the man who drowned Saturday afternoon has not been released. Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating both cases.
