New life for night life

FRESNO, Calif.

"And we're pretty much opening a little early to get all the kinks worked out until July 10th for our grand opening and this will be open for the next 4 Fridays."

Nicholas Perez is in charge of security at the 18 and over venue, which is located inside Chukchansi Park's Tecate Cantina.

It joins the 600 Club, another night spot inside the ballpark that has so far brought thousands of people to the area and has generated more than 12-thousand dollars in revenue for the city of Fresno.

The city's downtown revitalization manager says despite some previous roadblocks in the system, city officials are trying to reduce red tape to help people bring their ideas, along with their business...downtown.

Our goal is to try and make it as easy as possible to do the things we would all agree we would want to see downtown."

One person hoping to make his mark downtown is George Benitez. Benitez works as a promoter.

His latest project is opening a club next month called Neon Sky inside the Crest Theatre.

The building's owner has already submitted an application with the city.......and will meet with them next week. "The plan is to bring a whole new different kind of nightlife here downtown just to rejuvenate more business and traffic to the downtown area."

It's a goal that's been years in the making. "There's a level of excitement about the changes that are happening and it's starting to manifest itself on the ground"

The Cantina fits a thousand people and will close at 4-am.

As for safety concerns the manager tells me they have 15 private security guards on hand...along with 4 Fresno police officers.
