Big Fresno Fair ready to open rain or shine

FRESNO, California

A little drizzle didn't keep crews from getting attractions set up and horses wiped down.

Water plays a big part in some exhibits. Big Fresno Fair CEO John Alkire's especially proud of the new farmer's market that will be in place. Alkire said, "We need to be letting people know how important ag is so we've kind of blown things up a bit. Tomatoes as big and round as beach balls."

The new Yosemite Station features a rendition of Half Dome. It offers visitors a scenic area to relax in the shade.

Families on a budget will like the special promotion offered on Wednesdays. Shamrock Shows Owner Joe Blash said, "One thing I think everyone is going to love is going to be the dollar rides on Wednesday. Both Wednesdays are dollar days so come out and ride any ride you want for a dollar."

Chainsaw Chet's Haunted House will ensure not all the screaming will be done out of fun. The new attraction is a creepy maze full of scary images - perfect for folks getting ready for Halloween. Designer James Powell took us on a tour and explained, "There's some pigs that are cut open and splayed open and splattered blood everywhere."

Chicken Charlie's added a second stand. This year he's deep-frying Klondike bars. Gates open at the Big Fresno Fair Wednesday morning at nine.
