Costa, Vidak await provisional ballot count

FRESNO, Calif.

Jim Costa is not conceding in the race for the 20th Congressional District seat. His opponent, Republican Andy Vidak is leading by about 1,800 votes with every precinct reporting. However, provisional ballots still need to be counted.

As of Wednesday morning, Democrat incumbent Jim Costa had 49-percent of the vote while Vidak had 51-percent. 100-percent of precincts are reporting.

Costa's campaign team says they will make sure all the votes are counted before making an announcement on the race. They say it's too early to comment since they believe there could be a significant number of provisional ballots left to be counted.

The republican candidate Andy Vidak spent the night in Hanford closely watching the results come in. He was congratulated by family and friends in the beginning of the night when he had a significant lead over Jim Costa. Later in the night the race tightened up.

Vidak says he's happy with the results so far but still nervously waiting for the rest of the numbers to come in.
