FRESNO, Calif.

The proposed path for the rail system runs through prime farm land between Madera through Corcoran. A similar meeting was held last month about the project.

Farmers can meet today with the director of the rail authority and its engineers.

The meeting is being held at the Madera County Board of Supervisors chambers from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. It will also be streamed live online on the county's website.

Recent storms have brought encouraging news for some local farmers.

The State Department of Water Resources has increased the year's allocation by ten-percent.

The recent rain, runoff and the above-average snowpack means farmers will get 70-percent of their water request. Precipitation this winter is approaching the average for an entire water year.

The state water project delivers water to more than 25-million Californians and nearly a million acres of farmland.
