The Cottonwood Creek Levee north of Visalia is located at Road 112 and Avenue 368.
The levee suffered a 20-foot gash, sending water spilling out into nearby fields. Crews spent the day cleaning up the water and mud. Workers first used dirt to patch up the levee but it broke again. Now, they're hoping asphalt chunks will prevent more flooding.
Tulare Co. Supervisor, Phil Cox said, "So right now they're just watching it trying to get it plugged as soon as they can so when the larger waters from the latest storm comes down it'll be sealed"
Cottonwood Creek Levee is next door to several of Tulare County's correctional facilities.
