Flames were shooting out of the roof of the apartment complex at Marks and Weber when firefighters arrived.
Five of the eight apartments were damaged, leaving eighteen people without a place to stay.
Residents living directly above the unit where the fire began -- ran out without time to put on their shoes.
Investigators say two children playing with a lighter sparked the fire. Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries.
