Welty painted a grim picture of the college's financial future. This year, $32 million was cut from the school's overall budget.

Dr. John Welty said, "I'm extremely disappointed that our state has chosen to turn its back on higher education."

To make up for the loss, student fees went up 22%, 100 course sections were cut and 50 staff and administrative positions were eliminated.

The good news, a comprehensive campaign brought private donations up. They now make up nearly 50% of Fresno State's funding.
