It's a school that's overcome some big challenges before getting national attention. This year, the school won the Blue Ribbon Schools award which recognizes schools around the country for high levels of academic achievement.
David Cooper and Ellen Youssef have taught at Miramonte Elementary School for the past 17 years. School Principal Kia Yang says it's teachers like Cooper and Youssef with a long track record at the school who provide stability.
The staff works to identify students' abilities right away and children not performing at grade level are given extra attention. In some cases, they get one on one time with a specialist five days of the week.
It's targeted work and it isn't always easy, but so far, it's paying off.
