FRESNO, Calif.

Congress lifted a ban on funding horse meat inspections after a federal report found more horses had been neglected and abandoned since the economic downturn.

The President of United Horsemen says he's lined up plenty of investors interested in financing an American slaughterhouse.

The meat would be shipped to Europe or Asia.

The Humane Society of the United States warns there'll be a big outcry "over slaughtering trigger and Mr. Ed."

A Valley almond and grape grower will have to pay nearly $1 million to farmworkers for unfair labor practices

A judge found H-and-R Gunlund Ranches failed to pay minimum wage and overtime and also violated state rest and meal requirements.

California Rural Legal Assistance says some workers were paid less than $3 an hour.

H-and-R Gunlund Ranches has to pay to $915 thousand to 82 migrant farmworkers and their attorneys.

A telephone call to the grower went unanswered.
