FRESNO, Calif.

The California Farm Bureau reports, several dairies have been struggling since milk prices collapsed in 2009 and are now on the verge of bankruptcy. The Milk Producers Council says dairy farmers have not benefited from recent high milk prices because they've had to pay more for feed.

Food banks around the country say rising peanut butter prices are making it hard to provide one of their most-requested items this holiday season.

Peanut butter is popular at food banks since it's the kid-friendly protein source has a long shelf life and doesn't require special storage, cooking or utensils.

A smaller peanut crop this year prompted producers to raise prices. Food banks say that means they'll get less peanut butter donations, buy less themselves and rely more on alternatives like canned tuna or chicken.
