Child may be to blame for SE Fresno fire

FRESNO, Calif.

Investigators say the fire started on the outside, traveled up the wall and spread into the attack. Investigators say a mother and her six children, who live inside one of the units are lucky to have escaped without injury.

Captain Tim Fulmer said, "There was smoke detectors inside. They were not operable, so one of the things we want to make sure we get out is that people need to really pay attention to smoke detectors. Smoke detectors are the things that will save your life in a fire."

Both units suffered damage in the fire. Investigators are in the process of estimating the total loss.

The mother who lives in the unit says her children were trying to light something on fire, when the flames spread.
