Fire causes evacuation at a Fresno Co Library

FRESNO, Calif.

The fire broke out in an office building next to a branch of the Fresno County Library at Cedar and Clinton, forcing evacuations at the library. The fire started at around 9:30 a.m. at an vacant office building. The library had not opened for the day when the fire started -- but about five employees were inside the library when someone told them to get out because the building was on fire.

Firefighters don't believe the library suffered any damage. "Yes, it was really spreading quickly. These guys did a fantastic job. They were here quickly and they cut it off at both ends. They saved our library," said Library employee Mark Thornton.

One firefighter was injured during the incident. The extent of the injuries have not been released. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

A spokeswoman for the Fresno County Library told Action News that the employees for the Cedar/Clinton branch have been re-assigned. It is unknown when the library will reopen.
