Valley families get taste of national parks

FRESNO, Calif.

They set up a booth at Rotary Storyland Playland in Roeding Park trying to reach out to families who otherwise wouldn't make it to Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks.

Representatives say the national parks are not only some of the most beautiful places in the world, but they're also an important part of our cultural heritage.

"Not everybody comes to national parks so we've decided that it's important for us to come to the people that maybe don't know what opportunities are available to them. They don't know that it's there for them - that it's their park - and we're just here to share it with them and make it available," Jesse Chakrin of the National Parks Service said.

The event was sponsored by the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. It's the ninth year they've put on the event to educate the community about our national parks.
