5 things you need to know before you go

FRESNO, Calif.

1) Tropical storm Isaac approaches Florida

The National Hurricane Center just predicted Isaac will become a category one hurricane when it makes landfall. Earlier, forecasters predicted Isaac would be a category two or three hurricane. Isaac is on track to strike somewhere between Alabama and New Orleans, Louisiana.

2) The Republican National Convention gets underway in Tampa Florida today

However because of Tropical Storm Isaac, today's events are shorten to nothing more than an opening gavel and then a closing gavel just five minutes later. The four day convention has been condensed to three days. Mitt Romney formally accepts the Republican nomination Thursday.

3) Central Valley Meat in Hanford re-opens

The slaughterhouse under investigation for animal cruelty is set to re-open today. Central Valley Meat in Hanford was accused of animal abuse after an animal rights group released an undercover video last week.

4) Lake Tahoe plane crash kills 5 Fresno residents

The investigation resumes this morning after a plane crash Saturday night near South Lake Tahoe killed five people from Fresno including a small girl. The two families were headed back to the Valley when their plane went down just a few minutes after take off.

5) Sea Lion Cove at the Chaffee Zoo officially opens today

The $10.5 million project was built entirely with Measure Z money. Sea Lion cove is free with a paid zoo admission.
