Same-sex couples are tying the knot in the Valley

FRESNO, Calif.

Last week, the Supreme Court clear the way for gay marriages and a federal court in San Francisco ruled late Friday afternoon couples could begin getting marriage licenses.

Couples that Action News spoke with, said getting married was a monumental moment in their lives and they're happy to be joining couples around California on this day.

"Today has been a long time coming, and a lot of emotion coming with the day because we are now equal. We actually get to share the same benefits as everyone before us," said Vern Bias, newlywed.

The county clerk's office gave out about a dozen marriage licenses within the first hour. Many couples chose to get married at the clerks office or outside at a nearby pond.
