What new rankings mean for the Fresno State Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif.

The Bulldogs work on the field is getting recognition in the polls. The 'Dogs are ranked 17th in the first BCS poll and faithful fans are ready for some bowl action.

"Well I'm excited about it. The rest of the state is excited about it as well we've not had that here in quite a while. So we're definitely looking forward to them advancing in the polls," football fan Ed Trejo said

Trejo is a lifelong Bulldog fan and says there's something different this season.

"The attendance has definitely risen. In years past when Mr. Hill was here and not to say anything and about him because he did a great job while he was here, but Mr. Deruyter is filling the stands and that's huge," Trejo said.

According to attendance figures, Fresno State leads the Mountain West with a strong fan base. Average attendance has been more than 36,000 strong.

"Well we did have the sell out with Boise, last week we didn't quite have that sell out, but I do see it building. People are getting excited. We're trying to build that base again and get them coming back," Bulldog Foundation President Ed Dunkel said.

Fresno State has moved up to number 15 in the AP top 25 polls, and number 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The Bulldog faithful are confident this momentum will carry them through this season.

With all of this excitement the Red Wave is definitely optimistic. The 'Dogs take on San Diego state in San Diego this weekend and they will be back on their home turf in a couple of weeks.

The Bulldogs will have to win their remaining games and that includes the Mountain West Championship and a potential showdown with Boise State.
