A series of events honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. begins Friday in Fresno.

Thursday afternoon, city leaders proclaimed next week as Martin Luther King Jr. week.

Organizers say having these events help the community remember Dr. King's contributions to society.

The first event is scheduled for Friday at noon. The public is welcome to attend the Garlanding Ceremony at Courthouse Park in Downtown Fresno.

Over the weekend, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast will be held at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building, on Saturday.

And on Monday, the Martin Luther King March through Downtown Fresno begins at 9:00 a.m., outside Saint John's Cathedral. And it ends at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, around 11:00.
