A bus driver's faith might have saved his life.

Dayton police say a religious devotional book was in the man's shirt pocket over his heart and it stopped two bullets shot at his chest.

Rickey Waggoner, 49, was driving a public transit bus when it broke down, so he pulled to the side of the road to try to fix the problem. That's when he was attacked by a group of males who shot him three times and stabbed him in the arm.

One bullet struck Waggoner in the leg, but the other two jammed into the Bible and didn't penetrate his chest.

Waggoner was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
