Touching tribute held for fallen officers in Visalia

VISALIA, Calif.

The Tulare County Peace Officer's Memorial had personal stories from family members who lost loved ones in the line of duty. This year a new name was added to the memorial. Deputy Jeremy Meyst who was killed this past Christmas Eve.

As several planes flew overhead, local sheriff's deputies and police officers stood on guard, in honor of their fellow law enforcement brothers lost in the line of duty.

The annual Tulare County Peace Officer's Memorial ceremony is one of the most important parts of the year for families of those killed. A reminder that people truly have not forgotten about their loved ones, their service and sacrifice.

Sarah Meyst was in attendance, the wife of Tulare County Sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Meyst, killed in a car crash while transporting inmates back on Christmas Eve 2013.

Tulare County Acting Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said, "We have a new name etched on this wall for the Tulare County Sheriff's Department -- Deputy Jeremy Meyst."

After his name was called, his wife and children placed flowers with black ribbon near his name.

Plans are already underway to revamp and expand the Tulare County Peace Officer Memorial to make it an even more inviting place for family members and friends to come and visit.
