Big Fresno Fair is serving up new food

FRESNO, (KFSN) -- Some people argue one of more highly anticipated features of the Big Fresno Fair is the food.

The sound of sizzling meats and the sweet aroma of fried desserts are unmistakably a trademark at any fair. Here vendors are constantly fighting to win over taste buds. Like newcomers Willamette Valley Pie Co. who's 1950's retro theme isn't the only thing that's hitting people's sweet spots.

"What we feature is Marion berry anything. Marion berry pie, Marion berry cobbler, Marion berry turnovers and of course all of our other fruits come from the Willamette valley too," said Willamette Valley Pie Co. owner Michael Compton.

The sweet pies are the first of its kind at the BFF. But if you're craving something a little more hearty, just down the road there's something battered, lathered and fried at Sharkey's Fish Fry.

"We've been here at the fair for fifteen years with the fish and chips and the calamari is big here in Fresno so both of those items are top two. And lobster is the third item," said Sharkey's Fish Fry owner Don Delahoyde.

They aren't just Fresno famous either. Their newest menu addition lobster fries were recently featured on the Food Network.

"We take some fresh lobster meat, we quickly deep fry it, basically just warming it up and then we have a homemade chipotle-aioli sauce that goes over all that," said Delahoyde.

This year another long-standing vendor is also bringing a fresh idea to their kitchen.

Over at Fat Fannie's Funnel Cakes, their newest addition is the deep fried rocky road. So if you're feeling indulgent, and want to try something new, then a deep fried candy bar is the way to go.

But that's not to say there aren't healthy options at the Big Fresno Fair.

A fair complete with temptations of all shapes and sizes.
