FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Central California Blood Center looks stocked with blood of every type, but this weekend, that could change. "The need is huge. We have to maintain our blood supply for the hospitals daily, but then we also at the same time we have to catch up and kind of overstock a little for our weekend coming up. I keep hearing 60 percent of us will be on the roads traveling doing great things, fun times and unfortunately that's when accidents happens," said Chris Sorensen, Central California Blood Center Director of Community Relations and Development.
The blood center is hoping to fill chairs with donors to increase its supply, and local car enthusiasts have heard the call to help.
Hot rod enthusiasts are combining their love of cars with a good cause for the Third Annual "Driving To A Beautiful Life" blood drive. "There is a 30 day time frame where they are short on blood, Memorial Day, the holiday, schools and graduations, we just want to make a difference as a car club," said Carl Bischel, car club member.
Throughout the week different cars will be at the center, and on Saturday, more than 17 car clubs will put on a car show at the Jenny Eller Donor Center. There will be everything from hot rods and classic cars to modern cars with some power.
"We want to see people enjoy the hobby and we want to get aside effect of donating blood," said Bischel.
Those who come out this week and donate, will get a Driving to a Beautiful Life T-shirt, plus retail and restaurant discounts.
The third annual "Driving to a Beautiful Life" blood drive is underway now. You can donate at locations across the Valley. The car show takes place this Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jenny Eller Donor Center located at 4343 West Herndon in Northwest Fresno.
