FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police say more and more people are becoming victims of cell phone theft. In the past month, nine people have had their cell phones snatched from them in Southeast Fresno.
A black bird mascot who holds an ad sign on Cedar and Kings Canyon said he was nearly a victim earlier this month. But police say, he was paying attention and able to get away. Right now, cell phones are the hottest item to steal.
Sgt. Mark Hudson with the Fresno Police Department said, "That's one of the most valuable items now with the latest and greatest technology and the prices going up on cell phones, everybody wanting something new, they are becoming more expensive. And they certainly are a target for thieves."
Police say a $700 phone can be sold on the streets for $100 to $200 in only 15 minutes.
