FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Hundreds of people are pushing for peace in Southeast Fresno after recent shootings in the area. Cornerstone Church hosted a street festival near Huntington and Dearing avenues on Saturday to encourage people to be a bigger part of their community.
Volunteers handed out more than 500 boxes of food and served hot meals. Kids were treated to a bounce house, face painting and live music. Organizers say they hope events like this one will help people come together as a community and focus on the positive.
"Instead of just seeing the negative things that are happening in the streets, we want them to see the positive things that can happen. This is their neighborhood, and they deserve to feel safe here," Cornerstone Church Senior Pastor Jim Franklin said.
Cornerstone Church plans to visit other neighborhoods each month, where violence is a growing concern.
