FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- As families do their back-to-school shopping, several companies are partnering with non-profits to provide school supplies to needy children.

Target has a "Buy One, Give One" campaign. For each select school supply you buy for back to school through August 2nd, 2014, Target will give another to the Kids in Need Foundation, up to $25 million worth. Types of items donated may include pencils, erasers, notebooks, pencil sharpeners, glue, rulers, folders, scissors, pencil cases, crayons, markers, pens, and/or possibly other items.

Dollar Tree has joined with Operation Homefront for the Back to School Brigade, to provide supplies for military children across the country. The supplies can be purchased starting today by customers at any of the more than 30 Dollar Tree and Deals stores in and around the Fresno area and placed in collection boxes in each store. The Back-to-School Brigade program is a nationwide campaign by Operation Homefront and Dollar Tree. This is the sixth year that Dollar Tree has partnered with Operation Homefront for the program. Last year, Dollar Tree patrons donated more than $4.7 million of supplies nationwide.

Sleep Train is also hosting its annual school supply drive for foster kids through August 10th. For over 60,000 California foster kids, a sudden change of homes can mean starting over at a new school without the tools they need to succeed. Simple yet essential items such as a new backpack, a box of crayons or a new binder can give foster children the confidence they need to make a fresh start at a new school. Drop off donations of new school supplies at any sleep train location.

ABC30, the United Way of Fresno County, the City of Fresno, Comcast, and White & Bright Dental are hosting "Movies in the Park - Back to School Night" on August 8th at Eaton Plaza (next to the water tower in downtown Fresno). Free backpacks, filled with school supplies will be given out to children between the ages of 5 and 15, who must be present and accompanied by an adult.
